Dear Galileo Community:

As members of the Galileo PTSA, including executive leadership, we are reaching out to you personally to address a situation that has deeply affected our PTSA culture and values.

Recent hurtful, homophobic comments made by our ex-PTSA president, seemingly on behalf of the PTSA, were not only inappropriate but also completely contrary to the principles of respect and inclusion that we strive to uphold at Galileo. These comments DO NOT represent the views of the Galileo PTSA - quite the opposite. These comments were painful for us to read. We want to extend our sincerest apologies for the pain this may have caused you and others within our school community.

Our PTSA’s commitment to helping to foster a community where everyone feels valued, respected, and safe is paramount. We are taking this matter very seriously. We believe that actions and words have a profound impact on students, teachers and parents’ well-being.

We are actively working to address this situation, and we are committed to ensuring that our leadership is held accountable for their actions. At our PTSA meeting last night, we asked our interim President to step down and he did. Wendy Harris was elected as new PTSA president, and we had a frank discussion with parents, teachers and other staff about the tenor of these comments.

We are dedicated to creating a supportive environment for everyone at Galileo, and we need your help. If you would like to discuss this matter further, we encourage you to reach out to us directly.

We also need new members and individuals who are able to volunteer and/or take leadership role in developing our PTSA. I hope you will consider joining our PTSA. Together, we will strive to rebuild trust and foster an inclusive school community.
